FINISHED OFF
DAMAGED GERMAN DESTROYER (Rec. 1 a.m.) RUGBY, May 7. Early this morning light coastal forces 'of the Royal Navy carried out an attack On an Elbing class destroyer, which was driven ashore by the Canadian ship Haida after an engagement off He de Vierge, near Ushant, and subsequently further damaged by the R.A.F. The destroyer was torpedoed amidships and completely destroyed. Shore batteries opened fire on our ships without success.
