OVERCROWDING OF BUSES
OSMBIN-PORT OHALMERS SERVICE
Criticism at excessive loading of buses on the Dunedin-Port Chalmers service lias been expressed by the West Harbour Borough Council. A reply by the department states that every endeavour is made to avoid over-crowd-mg. A letter sent by the town clerk to the manager of the railway road services states: "At the last meeting of the council considerable concern was expressed at the dangerous .over-crowd-ing of buses on the Dunedin-Port Chalmers . service, and it was decided to bring the matter before the department. It is understood, to some extent, that there is a shortage of vehicles, but notwithstanding this fact, the «afetv of the travelling public must be the first consideration. I cannot express the council's disapproval too strongly, and trust that remedial measures will be immediately taken."
This letter has been referred to the manager, New Zealand railway road services, Dunedin, who, in reply, states thrft there have been occasions when the vehicles running between Dunedin and Port Chalmers have been fully taxed. Every endeavour is made to keep the loading down to the terms of the license and at the same time give the required service consistent with the safety of the public.
