CROQUET TOURNEY CONTINUED
SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS
Illustrating the keen competitive spirit marking the South Island croquet championship, several games that began early this morning were still uncompleted this afternoon on both the Watea and Leith.Lawns. The four greens at Watea and the three at the latter club were all in use, and most of the games, notably the one'between Mrs McCrackeri's pair and the one led by Mrs Latimer, were full of interest. This particular game in the third round of the handicap doubles was remarkable for the fact that Mrs McCracken weut round the peg in two turns. The lawns were playing very accurately, though still fast, especially at Watea. The match in the first round of the championship doubles produced a high standard of play, the steadiness of the Christchurch pair giving them an advantage. The best game of the morning was between Mrs Holmes and Mrs Metcalf, the Southland player judging her shots very accurately and taking the lead in the closing stages of the match. ' HANDICAP DOUBLES. Second round. Mesdames Knox (Watea) and McCracken (West Coast) beat Mr and .Mrs Metcalf (Logan Park) 26-19.
