BERLIN JITTERY
NEW RED OFFENSIVE EXPECTED LONDON, Oct. 24. The German-controlled Scandinavian Telegraph Bureau says: "Officials are sitting in Berlin with watches in hand, awaiting the gigantic new Russian offensive they are expecting in the Kremenchug sector. The Germans knew that the Russians would not advance until their flanks were secured. The Russians have now achieved this, and the German soldiers are bracing themselves for a new storm of fire and steel." The bureau, quoting military oireles in Berlin, says that the German leaders must be expected to squeeze every ounce of strength from their soldiers in order to hold their positions and to avoid a catastrophe ot great proportions. Huge Russian and German forces are massing for a gigantic battle. Developments in Russia are viewed by Berlin with the tautest nerves.
