SWEEPING REORGANISATION
PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT REBUKES DFFIGIALS DEPARTMENTAL DISPUTES AIRED IS PUBLIC WASHINGTON, July 15; President .Roosevelt, in a sweeping home front reorganisation, has relieved the Vice-President; Mr H. A. Wallace, and the .Secretary of Commerce, Mr Jesse Jones, of the responsibility foi foreign and economic warfare. President Roosevelt has abolished the Bureau of Economic Warfare, and has transferred its. functions and also the functions of ; all subsidiary organisations dealing with foreign and economic matters to the Office of Economic Warfare, Which lie.has created under the leadership of Mr Leo T. Crowley, who is at present Alien Property Custodian. President Roosevelt severely reprimanded Mr Wallace and Mr Jones.for publicly airing the dispute concerning the purchases of foreign strategic materials. White House has made public, the Presidential letter to the heads of all Government departments and agencies telling' them that-if they disobey Presi-dent-Roosevelt's previous instructions to bring interdepartmental disputes to him before airing them in the Press he expects them to send in their resignations immediately. President Roosevelt, in identical letters to Mr Wallace.and Mr Jones, said lie had come to, the conclusion that the unfortunate and acrimonious public debate between them made it necessary iu the.public interest to transfer their administration of foreign and economic affairs .to other hands. He added: " My action is not intended to decide who is right, but to clear the deck and get on' with the war at once. This requires a, fresh start with new men unencumbered by dissension and '.bitterness." ■';■.'.''■ ' '
