ENTERTAINING THE MEN
GOVERNMENT ASSISTING THE LOCAL BODIES (Special.) WELLINGTON, July. 14. The Prime Minister to-day is sending a telegram to. each of the mayors of cities and boroughs and the chairmen of county councils and town boards advising that tho Government wholeheartedly desires to be associated with any welcome and entertainment they are arranging for members of the 2nd N.Z.E'.F. now home on furlough, also other members of the forces who have returned to New Zealand from overseas, including naval and air personnel, and women of the services. For the purpose of- carrying out the entertainment the Government is placing at the disposal of local authorities a substantial financial contribution. Mr Fraser said that the Government ' realised that the nature, of the entertainment and the time "and other details were entirely matters for local-decision<. and arrangement. No doubt, added the Prime Minister,' the mayors of cities and boroughs and the chairmen of other ' local authorities would enlist the cooperation of every unit of the patriotic organisation and anybody interested in the welfare of servicemen and women.
