GOEBBELS CONFESSES
NAZIS GMMOT FORESEE FUTURE MUST FOLLOW PATH TO END (lte'c. 12.15 p.m.) LONDON, April 16. The German people must not " abdicatfi " as they did in 1918, said Dr Goebbels in an article in ' Das Reich.' He added that the German Government was utiable to foresee the future. It did not foresee all that happened in the last two years. "We can no longer turn back or even hesitate. We always favour frankness regarding the presentation of the military situation to our people. The policy , of bluff practised in the 1914-18 war has lost its effect in this war because the German people have now reached a higher standard of political maturity. However, one must concede the possibility of the Government making a mistake. No . one could have foreseen how this war was going to progress.. Its direction has become progressively severe. We must follow our path to the end, even if it be hard, without considering obstacles which • arise on the way. Germans must be prepared, if necessary, to sacrifice their Uves for the sake of Nazi ideals."
