SOUTH ISLAND TITLES
(P.A.) IXVKRCARGILL, Jan. 22. The South Island intercentre swimming championships commenced at the tepid baths this morning. No records were broken, but the swimming was of a good l standard, and there were some close finishes. Several heats of the junior and intermediate championship events were completed, the finals of which will be decided later. Results:— Junior Boys' 100 Yards, free style.— First heat: "Samson (Canterbury) 1, Rea (Otago) 2, Wright (Southland) 3. Ten vards. Time, 68 3-ssec. Second heat:" Macdonald (Southland) 1, Sinclair (Otago) 2. Pasley (Southland) 3. Three vards. Time, 72 4-ssec. Junior Girls' .50 Yards, free style.— First heat: Marslin (Otago) 1, N. Macdonald (Southland) 2, Hall (Southland) 3.. One' yard. Time, 35 l-ssee. Second heat: Beadle (Southland) 1, Allan (Otago) 2, Taylor (Southland) 3. Three vards. Time. 32 4-osec. Girls' 75 Yards Breaststroke.—First heat: Payne 1. Brown 2, Kearnes 3 (all Otago). Three yards. Time, 68 2-ssec. Second heat: Clark (Southland) 1, Beadle (Southland) 2, Simonsen (Otago) 3. Moore (Otago) won by a touch, but was disqualified for using the incorrect stroke. Time, 71 3-ssec. Intermediate 75 Yards Girls' Breaststroke.—First heat: Hughes 1, Kearnes 2. Ross 3 (all Otago). Two feet. Time, 66 3-ssec. Second heat: Harrison 1, Johnston 2, Sherrif_ 3 (all Otago). One vard'. Time, 67 l-ssec. 220 Yards Boys' Free S»yle.—First heat: Barry (Nelson) 1. Duncan (Canterbury) 2,' Chadwick (Otago) 3. Eight yards. Time, 2min 41 3-ssec. Second heat: Doake (Southland) 1. Harris (Canterbury 1, Wilson (Otago) 3. Three yards. Time, 2min 46 4-ssec.
