TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —As a member of the old brigade who suffered injuries in the last wav I would like to suggest that men who fought 26 years ago bo reserved to take part in all wars, irrespective of past services. At least they can claim to he experienced. The people who hoorayed them off last time have evidently forgotten their erstwhile heroes. In every town and village is a monument erected to the memory of our brave hoys who died—“ Lest We Forget.” Those who lived through hell have nothing to recommend them. We have in our midst aliens whoso kin probably bore arms against ns. They live in freedom and luxury beyond the means and reach of many who fought for the liberty now denied them. Were compulsory military training in cadet and Territorial forces prior to and voluntary services in 1914-1918 taken into account when selecting men for ballot? Is there not a certain amount of panic connected
with the latest moves? Are wo not the victims of maladministration, m that we have no option but to again sacrifice all, while essential works are stopped by strikes and stop-work meetings and the Government dictated to bv a branch of the community who wield the “ big stick ” P—l am etc., Blood and Tears. r„O.l
