WOMAN SENT TO PRISON
THEFTS FROM SHOPS (P.A), AUCKLAND, October 3. A sentence of three months’ imprisonment was imposed on Rachel Stott, aged 57 years, married, by Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., in tho police court to-day on three charges of stealing goods valued at £lB from two city departmental stores. “ This woman must have had some market for the dresses as she could not have worn them,” said Detectivesergeant Nalder. Her husband is receiving over £lO a week. In 1923 she was granted probation on theft charges, and in 1933 was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment on seven charges of shoplifting.” After hearing the. defending conn sel on the question of Airs Stott’s health, the magistrate said that he would halve tho sentence which he would otherwise have passed.
