QUICK WORK YESTERDAY END EXPECTED NEXT WEEK (Special.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 3. That the Parliamentary machine, usually so deliberate, can work, was proved this afternoon, when the House of Representatives, resuming at “2.30, pub the medieval practitioner amendments to the Social Security Act through committee and within the next minute approved tho third reading. The Bill as passed was presented to the Legislative Council with equal celerity and read a first time, the council completing this task in time to adjourn at 2.40 p.m. It will debate the measure on the second reading stage nest Wednesday. Members consider that the sessional programme holds nothing ■ contentious enough to prevent its completion by Friday at latest. The House of Representatives to-day not only passed the Social Security Bill, hut put through all stages the Coal Mines Amendment and Mining Amendment Bill! It re-sumes-on Tuesday afternoon, the Prime Minister stating that Bills to he discussed will he War Damage, Land and Income Tax Amendment, Local Legislation, and possibly Lands Disposal, “ Is it proposed to proceed with the Soldier's’ Rehabilitation Bill? ’’ asked the Leader of the Opposition, the Prime Minister replying that it would be introduced on Wednesday. “We will still finish next week?” queried Mr Holland. “ I think so,” was the Prime Minister’s reply, just ns the House rose nearlv an hour earlier than customarv.
