WOMAN DRIVER DRUNK
TAILORESS’S HOLIDAY (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 1. A tailoress, Daphne Margaret Webber, aged 27, admitted a charge of driving a car while intoxicated- when she appeai'ed before Mr F. K. Hunt. S.M., to-day. A sergeant and a constable saw the car being driven on the wrong side of the road at 1 o’clock in the morning, said Senior-sergeant Joyce. When it neared them the engine stalled. The accused was found in. the driver’s seat in an advanced state of intoxication. The police understood that the accused had obtained liquor at a club. Counsel submitted that it was not a had case. The accused' was on holiday in Auckland, 'but had been working as a tailoress. A fine of £25 was imposed. “ It is their only punishment really, ami I would print the name in block' capitals if I had my way.” the Magistrate said, declining a request'for the suppression of the accused’s name.
