APPEALS FROM SERVICE
YESTERDAY'S SITTING The A ruled Forces Appeal Hoard dealt with the following appeals yesterday afternoon : The National Mortgage and Agency Company appealed on behalf of Jack Mundy, a deck hand on a trawler, on the ground of public interest. —The appeal was dismissed on condition that the reservist is not called up before October 31. Winifred Mekla Peake appealed on behalf of her husband, Ivan Joseph Peake, window dresser, on the ground of undue hardship.—Evidence was given as to complainant’s state of health.—The appeal was dismissed, on condition that the reservist is not called up before November 30. C, Methvcn and Co. Ltd. appealed on behalf of David Scott Gibbons (press operator), John Joseph Cullen (brass finisher), and Leonard Patrick Casey (machine operator) on the ground of public interest.—After evidence had been heard the board dismissed the appeal on behalf of Cullen on condition that he is*, not called up before December 31, and adjourned the other two appeals, these reservists to be transferred to the Territorial service. Jack Culling Cooper, chromium manufacturer, appealed on the ground of undue hardship.—The appeal was dismissed on condition that he was not to bo called up before January 31. An appeal on behalf of Thomas Key Buxton, a school teacher, was lodged by Albert William Harvey West, acting head master of John M‘Glashan College, on the grounds of public interest and undue hardship. Evidence was given that if the appellant were called up, his departure would prejudice the chances of success of a number of students who would be taking examinations at the end of the year. A postponement of service was therefore asked.—The appeal was dismissed, subject to the appellant not being called up before December 31. An appeal on the ground of undue hardship was lodged by Robert William Hughson, A postponement of service only was sought.—The appeal was dismissed, on condition that the appellant was not called up before December 31. An appeal by James William Campbell, a metal worker, who sought a postponement of service, was dismissed on condition that he was not called up before December 31. An appeal on behalf of Robert Kilpatrick Martin, company manager, was made bv F. and F. Martin Ltd. and Francis Chapman Martin, on the grounds of public interest and undue hardship.—Counsel said that the Reservist was anxious to go overseas, but he felt that it was only fair to allow his father to lodge an appeal.—The appeal was dismissed on condition that the appellant should not be called up before December 31.
