COMMUNITY SINGS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l feel that I should answer “ Less Talk ” with regards to singers being cut off the air. He is surely not aware of restrictions with reference to songs or poems being broadcast. I arranged with Mr Himburg to sing 4 Love’s Old Sweet Song,’ ‘ Sour Milk,’ and recite 4 A Wee Bouquet from Scotland,’ but owing to copyright laws the two latter could not be broadcast, so it was arranged that I sing the first for broadcast at 12.10 p.m. and the latter two to follow to tho audience, which I did. Unfortunately, before I finished the first song the news came on, and it was no fault of anyone'that I was cut off. I do not wish to make any comments about the rest of the letter, as I will leave it to some moie able pen than mine. I have attended the Friday Community “Sings” for years, and have always enjoyed them. —I am, etc., (Mrs) Mary M. Oliver. October 1.-

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —The old saying 44 Truth hurts,” seems to have hit the nail correctly on the head. No remarks were made concerning what the leader has done for the “ sing.” The leaders have done great work for a good cause and I hope they will continue to make good) progress, but surely a halt could be made at some of the uncalled-for wisecracks which do hold up the works. One would think it was a singing class of children instead of grown-up folk when we are told to sing the same old song ajiout two or three times. To-day J had! the pleasure of listening to the South Dunedin 44 sing” over the air and it was a very good “ sing song ” indeed. People go to these 44 sings ” to enjoy themselves, not for tuition and to become a well-trained choir.—l am, etc., October I. Less Talk. October 1
