SHARE MARKET BRIGHTER NATIONAL MORTGAGES FIRMER A more extensive inquiry and some share appreciations combined to make the market a little brighter this morning. The improvement was coniiued to no one section, but bids for National Mortgages rose by Is 6d for the £2 issue, while the “ B’s ” were up 6d. Loan and Agencies were asked for at £36. Government loans had a general unsupplied demand at late rates, except for the 1952-55 issue, which stood at £lO6 10s Payers. Bank of Now Zealands charged hands in Mio room at £2, after which they were sought at about the same figure. After the call they were turned over again. National and Standard Insurances wore firmer, the margin in quotes for the former being close. They wore sold yesterday at 19s 9d. Auckland Gas were inquired for at 7s 3d. Dominion Rubbers were offered at an unchanged figure, and bids rose a little; the-same was the case with Farmers’ Fertilisers. CANTERBURY STOCK PRICES SHOW LITTLE CHANGE (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, October 1. At tho Addington market to-day there were heavier yardings in most sections, but prices were little affected. Store Sheep.—The entry was about the same as iast week, and bidding was not so 'brisk, ■ but coarse-woolled ewe hoggets and ewes with lambs practically maintained the rates of a week ago. Up to 32s was paid for good, open-wo'olled hoggets, but a better lino of Corriedalcs was , passed at 9d more. 'Shorn wether hoggets made to 21s 8d and ewes and lambs (all counted) to 16s 9d. Fat Sheep.—An entry of about 5,250, as against 3,250 last week. Wethers from the south were included, and values for all classes were down by Is a head. Good wethers made from 34s to 375; tops, to 41a 4d; and medium-weight prime, 29s to 325, Good ewes commanded from 25s to 295; tops, to 345; prime medium-weight, 22s to 25s 6d; and ordinary, 18s to 225. Fat Cattle. —An offering of 575, as against 404 last week, including prime quality entries from Banks Peninsula and the West Coast, and several truck lots from these sources averaged from £l9 to £22 for specially prime sorts. Good cattle made from £l7 to £2l; tops, to £25 12= 6d; prime medium-weight, £l4 10s to £l7 10s; and inferior down to £ll. Best heifers sold to £ls 7s 6d and cows to £l4 10s; medium to good, £lO 10s to £l3 5s for heifers and £9 10s to £l2 15s for cows. Good beef sold from 44s 6d to 47s 6d per 1001 b; tops, to 48s 6d; medium quality and heavy, 41s to 445; and inferior, down to 31s. Fat Pigs.—Bacon was 3s to 4s per head easier and pork slightly cheaper. Porkers made from £2 9s 6d to £3 6s 6d; average price per lb, to 9id.
