NEW SERVICES FROM ID-DAY EXTENSIVE RAILWAY ALTERATIONS When the interislaud express steamer Wahiue arrived at Lyttelton this morning, the new daylight services were put into operation with the immediate turning round ” of the vessel for the daylight crossing to Wellington. Consequently, the Railways Department has drawn up a new schedule of trains to connect with the steamer. ’Tt is expected that the Christmas and New, Year organisation of the steamer service will automatically be adopted, with a light luncheon served on board, and arrangements made for second class transport accommodation in the event of all berths being taken. For passengers by the special night trains every facility for night travelling will be provided, refreshments will be made available en route, and sleeping cars are to bo put on at Dunedin. With the provision of four night trains a week passengers for the North Island will not be required to spend a night in Christchurch. NIGHT TIME-TABLE. On Sundays the through train from Invercargill will, until further notice, leave Invercargill at 5.5 p.m., and Dunedin at 10 p.m., and on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, while' there will be no through night train from Invercargill, an express will he despatched from Dunedin for Lyttelton at 10 p.m. It will leave Oamaru at 1.16 a.m., and Timaru at 2.54 a.m., and will arrive at Christchurch at 5.57 a.m., leaving again for Lyttelton at 6.30. On Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, an express will leave Christchurch at 11.2 p.m., and is timed to arrive here at 6.53 the following morning. On Sundays the evening train for Invercargill will leave at 5.5 instead of 5.20, as at present. As from Friday, the through express from Invercargill, which at present leaves Dunedin at 10.50 a.m., will revert to its original time-table, and will leave at 11.35. OTHER SERVICES. The Edievale-Waipahi road motor service (Tuesday to Saturday), will now, leave Edievale at 6.30 a.m., arriving at Waipahi at 8.25 a.m., to connect with the Invercargill-Christchuroh ■ express. On the Gatlins River branch, the Tuesday to Friday Tahakopa-Balclutha train will leave Tahakopa at 6.40 a.m., arriving at Balclutha at 9.25 a.m., to connect with the north express. POSTAL ALTERATIONS. The daylight sailings by the interisland steamers will also necessitate an alteration in the closing time of mails for the north. On Sunday night, until " further notice, mails for the North Island will close at 8.30 p.m. at the Chief Post Office, and at 7 p.m. at suburban offices, instead of at 10 p.m., as at present. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays mails for despatch by the night express for the north will close at 7 p.m., but on Tuesdays and Thursdays mails for the north must be in the Chief Post Office by 9.30 a.m. Such of these mails as are for the North Island, however, will, of necessity, remain in Christchurch until the following morning. Incoming mails from the north will he received at Dunedin at 7 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, but on Wednesdays and Fridays they will be brought south by the goods train from Christchurch, and will probably be available about midday.
