NEW DENTAL CLINIC

ADJUNCT TO WAKARI SCHOOL OPENED BY DR D. 6. M'MILLAH Residents in the Wakari district contributed the whole of the cost of the new school dental clinic which was opened in the Wakari School grounds by Dr D. G. M'Millan on Saturday afternoon. Built under the supervision of the Otago Education Board, the clinic cost £l9O, an amount which was raised in five months. Mr G. E. Mawhinney, who was chairman of the committee responsible for its erection, briefly thanked the residents of the district for their support. The district dental superintendent (Mr J. S. Nicholson) stated that the school dental service was the best school service introduced into any country. The country which neglected this aspect of health was hopelessly behind the times. Any time or money spent on such clinics would be repaid many times over by the resultant benefit to the children. Mr J. Wallace, the chairman of the Otago Education Board, who accepted the cheque in payment of the clinic, congratulated the Health Department on its establishment of school dental clinics. There were now 30 in Otago, and they served 160 schools. “ It gives me great pleasure to perform this opening ceremony,” said Dr M'Millan, “ because this clinic will bo associated with the Wakari sub-divi-sion. But I am most pleased because this clinic affords an example of a community effort. Everybody recognises that the school dental service gives the children good teeth, and good teeth are necessary if we are to have healthy children.” “ Those persons responsible for the erection of the clinic have conferred a great benefit on the children, and T congratulate them on their initiative, Dr M'Millan concluded.
