Roseman was first into the straight, but Master Dingle rushed to the front at the last fence and ran home a decisive winner. Roseman held on for second money, and Donadea weakened in the run to the post, and Dividend easily beat him for third money. * * * . * The two-year-olds were the best supported in the Challenge Stakes, but they were outclassed b yt Density, who quickly ran to the front, and at the home turn had a six lengths’ break on Monetary and Palfrey. Monetary went out wide turning into the straight, and, although his rider used the whip on him, ho was done a furlong from the post, and it was left to Palfrey to chase the top-weight home. He made a game effort, and reduced the gap to three lengths. • * » • Hurry Girl was preferred to Arctic Dawn in the 'Yaldhurst Handicap, but the latter was a winner from his stablemate, Force, with Hurry Girl in third place. Force led into the straight, and was holding off Hurry Girl when Arctic Dawn challenged, and in an interesting tussle gained a neck victory from Force, with Hurry Girl half a length away. * * * * Rawhamai recorded a comfortable win in the Gimcrack Handicap. Retrogression was first on to the course proper, but a furlong from home Rawhamai moved up to the front, and soon placed the issue beyond doubt. Lady Derby, who came from well back, as easily accounted for second money from Retrogression, who narrowly beat Treasurer. » * » * The Great Autumn Handicap attracted a good-class field, and Little Robin was sent out a much better favourite than Iceland Spar. From an excellent start Merry March and King’s Toast showed out, but entering the hack stretch Wardress shot to the front, and at the half-mile had a four lengths’ lead from Prudent Prince and Willie Win, with Iceland Spar, Winning Rival, Thermidor, and Little Robin in the rear. Wardress was throe lengths in, front entering the straight from Prudent Prince, Happy Ending, Willie Win, Knight Commander, and Iceland Spar, and was still bowling along with a furlong to go. It was not until half a furlong from the post that she was subjected to her first challenge, and this by Iceland Spar, who gradually worked his way past her, going on to record an outstanding staying performance, but with only a neck to spare. Three lengths away Prudent Prince was an easy third, three lengths in front of Little Robin, who came from a long way back. Royal Chief was next, just m front of Happy Ending, The Wrecker, Winning Rival, and Thermidor. Corn Prince took charge from Lady Nottava a furlong from home in the Autumn Nursery Handicap, but failed to withstand a determined challenge by the first day’s winner, Egyptian Rose, who finished full of running. Princess Myosotis, last early, did well to gain third money from Espionage, who did not perform up to expectations. Salutation headed the remainder. * * * * Hearth, third favourite for the Templeton Handicap, outclassed her opponents over the last furlong. She followed Lord Nuffield, St. Cloud, Circular Note, and Night Eruption on to the course proper, ami a furlong from the post had worked her way to the front, going on to win without pressure. In a hard struggle for the

minor places, Kentucky got up to beat Night Eruption on the post, with Doria close up next, in front of Circular Note and Rakanui. • » * » The biggest dividend of the meeting was returned when The Joker won the concluding event, the Addington Handicap. He was not prominent for a long way, and it was not until well in the run home that he put in a claim. Muffler and Blue Abbey were then disputing the lead, but The Joker reached the front a few chains from the post and won easily from Muffler, who similarly beat Blue Abbey. Halt was a neck away in 'front of Sweet Mystery and Phyto.
