CIVIC AFFAIRS

REPORTS OF COMMITTEES The following particulars appear in the reports of the various committees of the City Council, and will be presented at the meeting of the council on Monday night;— Mid-morning Bus to Liberton. The Transport Committee report states that a request from the Dalraore and Pine Hill Districts Ratepayers and Householders’ Association on behalf of the residents of Liberton for the inauguration of a mid-morning, bus service to the city has received consideration. The proposed service would entail a journey of four miles from the sheds to Liberton, and would, mean an additional consumption of fuel. The results of the mid-morning service at present operating on Saturdays lead to the opinion that the patronage could not possibly make the service self-sup-porting. With a view, however, to exploring the possibilities of the service authority has been granted to operate a trial service on one morning a week for a period of throe months. A decision as to the need for such a service will receive consideration when the results of this trial are known. Drainage Extension Loan. Advice has been received from the Local Government Loans Board to the effect that the Drainage Board’s application for approval of a loan ot £70,000 has been granted. The loan has been sanctioned for a term of 30 years, with a sinking fund of 2 per cent, per annum and with interest not to exceed the rate of 4 per cent, per annum. Gas Output. The gas engineer’s report discloses that the gas output for the mouth amounted to 25,578,000 cubic feet, an increase of 2.7 per cent, as compared with the output for the same period last year. Coke sold amounted to 333 tons and tar sold to 3,091 gallons. Warrants of Fitness. The report of the chief traffic inspector discloses that during March 1,275 warrants of fitness were issued at the testing station—26s were rejected on first inspection and 31 on second inspection.
