RABBITS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—On numerous occasions mention has been made of the hold the rabbit is gaining in New Zealand. It may be of interest to readers that during the summer months the Government compelled farmers to hire killers, the Government subsidising their pav bv half. Now these same farmers are forbidilmg shooting on their property and advertising their intention of prosecuting persons shooting rabbits. Why, then, are the farmers allowed to protect this national pest which Ihe people's taxes are used to exterminate? Could the Government not call an open season for all and save the hundreds of pounds paid to these killers?—l am. etc.. War Effort. April 18.
