Y.W.C.A. BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Y.W.C.A. Board of Directors was held on Wednesday. Mrs J. R. Fairbairn presiding. M.esdames C. M. Begg, It. Ellis, B. Kerr, P. L. Ritchie, Professor Strong, Misses M. Begg, Frances J. Ross, M. Dallas, G. Farnie, and Mrs J. Gray (Milton) were also present. A letter was received from the secretary of Her Excellency Lady Newall, thanking the association for flowers and message on the occasion of her visit to Dunedin. Mrs Gray gave a short report on the progress of the arrangements for establishing the hostel in Milton. The secretary 'reported that Miss K. M’Rae, of the Auckland Association, had accepted appointment as the secretary, and Miss Wright, of the Wellington Association, would act as assistant. Plans for the forthcoming convention, to be held in Auckland from May 14 to 21, were outlined by Mrs Begg, who gave a brief account of the convention study on the ‘ Y.W.C.A. as an (Ecumenical! Movement,’ which was being prepared by the Wanganui and Dunedin Associations. Members were invited to join the study group on Friday mornings. The financial statement for March was adopted, and accounts amounting to £242 12s 4d were passed for payment. Appreciation of the result of the street appeal was expressed by members. The hostel report, submitted by Miss Rosevear, stated that there were 44 residents, and 62 transient guests had stayed for varying periods. The activities secretary reported that the year’s programme had been prepared by club members, this consisting of drama, music, crafts, and ballroom dancing. Two successful camps had been held at Easter, the Girl .Citizens at Taieri Mouth, and the 3Y9 Club at Benhar. The Home Nursing Club would commence its winter programme on April 28. The thanks of the association wore due to Miss Greenwood and Miss Gillett, and ,to members of the Otago Centre of the N.Z.A.A. who had acted as judges, referees, and time-keepers at the interliouse sports. The Y.W.C.A. baseball team bad won the chain-, pionship shield in the recent tournament, and two members of. the team bad been included in the South Island ropresentaive team. The members of the Y.W.C.A. Cricket Club bad been included in the Otago representative team. The opening of the Y.W.C.A. Interhouse Basketball Association will be held to-day, and the Otago Basketball Association next Saturday. The W.W.SiA. Girls’ Cycling Corps was concentrating on signalling, and recently took part in the emergency precautions scheme practice. The cafeteria report stated that the administration building was used every night, and that members wore making use of the cafeteria. The general secretary reported that a case of goods bad been forwarded to Miss Jean Begg for the women of the services in Egypt, and it was hoped to forward another case shortly. A donation of £2 2s had been received from the Home Economics Association for buying comforts for the nurses. Mrs B. Kerr reported on the Membership Committee, stating that 16 new members had joined recently, and a welcome party had been held during the month.
