DECLINE IN POPULATION RATE OF INCREASE Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyngaf TOKIO, April 18. The ‘ Nichi Nichi ’ said the Japanese Empire census for ■ October, 1940, totalled 105,000,000 or an increase of 6,000,000 over 1935, as a result of which it is now claimed that Japan is tho world’s second largest empire, though the rate of increase has declined from 8 1-5 to 6i per cent. It is, therefore, urgently necessary that the Government should take measures for an increased population. Japan proper has a population of 73,000,000, while Tokio lias 6,778,000, compared with 5,870,000 in 1935.
