BOMBING OF ROME
GERMANY WARNED REPRISALS IF ATHENS AND CAIRO ATTACKED LONDON, April 19. Germany has been warned that if any air attacks are carried out on Cairo and Athens the R.A.F. will bomb Rome. A statement to this effect has been issued from 10 Downing street, and it adds that the bombing of Rome will be continued until the end of the war. Strict instructions have been issued to the R.A.F. not to bomb Vatican City if these raids are carried out. An example of the trickery of the Axis partners is revealed in the statement that it is known that a squadron of Italian bombers is loaded with captured British bombs ready to drop them on Vatican City if raids take place.
