DX CONFERENCE

DELEGATES FORGATHER Tlie eighth annual conference of the New Zealand DX Radio Association (Incorporated) was hold during Easter at Dunedin, when visiting delegates were present from Wanganui, Wellington, Christchurch, and Timaru. Although initiated in 1933, largely due to the efforts of local DX-ers, this was the first occasion the annual conference of the N.Z. DX R.A. had been allocated to Dunedin. At the opening session on Saturday morning in the N.Z.A.11.T. rooms, Cromwell Chambers, the delegates and visitors were welcomed by the Dunedin branch vice-president (Mr D. C. Duff) in the absence of Mr A. E. Greenway, who is at present in camp. The conference was presided over by Mr D. Campbell, of Christchurch, under whose guidance the remits and general business were expeditiously dealt with. The election of officers resulted in Messrs D. Campbell, E. Watson, and D. F. Johnson being appointed president, secretary, and treasurer respectively, the other members of the Headquarters Committee being B. C. M. ; Philpott (vice-president), A. J. Harbott, A. Henson, and F. C. Reynolds. Messrs A. L. Stanton (Dunedin) and A. Kindell (Wellington) were also elected vice-presidents. The headquarters of the DX Association remains in Christchurch, but the official organ, ‘ Tune In,’ after being edited for eight years by the members of the Dunedin branch, lias been transferred to Wellington. The membership of the N.Z. DX R.A. stands at 1.750, and these DX listeners were represented at the conference by Messrs C. J. Hunt (Wanganui), 11. Clarke, A. Kindoll (Wellington). F. C. Reynolds and J. Patterson (Christchurch), Mrs A. J. Day (Timaru), Messrs A. L. Stanton and D. C. Duff (Dunedin), E. Gray (Dunedin South), A. J. Harbott, D. Campbell, D. F. Johnson (headquarters), and E. M. Niven (‘Tune In ’). In conjunction with the DX conference, pleasant social evenings were held at the homes of Messrs F. A. Wilson and J. W. P. Bulger (both of Mornington), on Friday and Saturday respectivelv. Visits were also made to the DX listenng posts of Mr A. L. Stantoh at Doctors. Point, and Mr F. A. Wilson at Long Beach, where visitors had opportunity of hearing numerous DX broadcasts from Canada, Alaska, Mexico, and the United States at excellent volume and clarity despite the unfavourable weather. A visit was made to the home at Mosgic! of a past secretary and ‘Tune In’ editor (Mr R. A. Hutchison). Owing to war conditions, North Auckland. Auckland. Hastings. Taranaki. and Southland branches were not represented at the conference. Prominent visitors were Mr and Mrs B. Beauchamp, Mr and Mrs G. L. Grant. Messrs W. Billings, J. H. Geddes, B. A. Henry. M. Kelly. T. M'Faddon. R. B. Kemslev (Wellington). Mrs J. Patterson. and A. Henson (Christchurch), and Mr A. .1. Dnv (Timaru). It was announced that the next animal conference would ho held in Wanganui, and the call book. ‘ Radio Calls of the World,’ would bo off the press shortly.
