ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
CYCLIST’S DEATH. Found lying in an unconscious state at the corner of William and Stafford streets yesterday morning, John Donaldson, ,a married man, aged 36 years, who resided at 27 Carson street, Moruington, was conveyed by a passing motorist to the Hospital where he died at 12.20 p.m., without having regained consciousness. The deceased loft home on his bicycle about 7.20 a.m. for his work in the city, and although no one saw the accident it is believed that he struck an electric light post in the vicinity where he was found. An inquest was opened this morning by Mr J. It. Bartholomew, S.M., acting as coroner, when evidence of identification was given by William John Pockson, father-in-law of the deceased. Evidence was also given by Dr John Dickie, who described severe head injuries received by deceased as being consistent with his having come in violent contact with some hard object. The Coroner adjourned the proceedings to a date to be fixed. Sergeant O’Carroll represented the police. SECOND VICTIM. The second death from the motor smash on the Pleasant Point highway (South Canterbury) on Monday night occurred yesterday, the victim being Mona Florence Shirley Ivey, aged 13. Her father, Air Thomas Ivey, died 15 minutes after the accident.
