MOTORING ACCIDENTS
ANALYSIS OF YEAR’S STATISTICS 4,275 PERSONS KILLED OR INJURED For the 12 months ended February 28 last, fatal injuries attributed to motor vehicle accidents numbered 188; but 2,279 persons received minor injuries and 1,808 serious injuries. The Government Statistician shows that of the fatalities 41 were females and 147 males; of the seriously injured 1,289 were males and 519 females. Analysing the class of persons killed, the statistician shows that 36 were drivers, 45 passengers, 55 pedestrians, 24 push cyclists, 21 motor ■ cyclists, 3 pillion riders, and 4 were unspecified. Of the 3,176 accidents recorded, 3,758 were attributed to collisions, and of these 34 were with railway trains, 891 were between vehicle and vehicle, 712 between vehicles and pedestrians, and 860 between motor vehicles and bicycles.
In addition to these “ collision ” returns, there were accidents caused by driving off the road (89), running down steep places, into sea or river (120), and overturned in roadway (134). Other accidents numbered 75, making a total of 418. Collisions and non-col-iision accidents totalled 3,176.
