NOTES ON THE RAGING [Special to the ' Star.’] ' The public successfully selected the first two horses in the Ngaio High-weight Handicap. These wore The. Monarch and Foxette, who disputed the minor places on the first day. Moradabad and The Monarch raced abreast to the straight in front of Poxette, and when the firsLnamed weakened a furlong from home, Foxette challenged The Monarch, without, however, 'making any impression, and The Monarch won with a good deal in reserve. Moradabad was a close third two lengths in front of Boatsong, with Mataroa,. Hokumai, and Sunee following. Good Health drifted early and trailed the field throughout a long way in the rear.

Prematura followed up her win on the first day by another impressive victory in the Pacific Handicap. Ring Chief led on to the course proper from Bird of Prey, Gay Genet, Burra Sahib, and Premature, and these were bunched a furlong from home. Premature then gradually drew to the front and outstayed Ring Chief to beat him by a length. Gay Genet just lasted to hold off Willow Wood for third money. The latter finished very fast, and but for his rider casing up on him a stride too soon ho would have been in a place. The winner again paid double figures for a win. Bascule was again rlow away, and followed the field well back. The favourite, Foreign Coin, was always wide out and the second choice, Kevin, was slow away and was one of. the last for most of the journey.

Kindergarten and Lambourn were left to fight out the St. Leger Stakes, and in a pool totalling £785 the former returned slight interest to his followers. The race is easily described, as after Lambourn led Kindergarten at three-quarter pace for over a mile the latter was in front, turning for home. Lambourn was soon struggling to keep up, and when Kindergarten was asked a question nearing the post he drew out to make a safe margin without ever being asked to do his best. The time, 3min 18isec, was the slowest since 1911.

The third money, £SO, went to the owner of Kindergarten, whose winnings now total £6,005 for 10 wins and three minor places in 16 starts.

The field for the Autumn Handicap was reduced to six runners, and Belle Cane was sent out a slightly better favourite than The Ring. Hunting Cat acted as pacemaker for a mile, but after entering the straight just in front of Belle Cane and The Ring he retired, and Piastre ran up to the other pair, with Wardress improving her position from the back. Belle Cane could nob carry on, and the final tussle was left to Piastre and The Ring, who fought out a long struggle, resulting in a half-head verdict for Piastre. Wardress stayed on for third money clear of Belle Cane, with Trench Fight and Hunting Cat beaten off.

Rakanui was responsible for an impressive performance in winning the Champion Hack Handicap. He followed Filbert and Sanction into the straight, but the run home had not long been in progress before Rakanui made a fast run on the fence to overhaul the leaders, and he had the issue settled a good way from the post. Filbert stayed on for second money, and King’s Toast, hard ridden over the last Ihrce furlongs, got. up for third place a. length in front of Arabic. Marlene and Don Qucx were next.

Autolito improved on her first day’s second placing to Kentucky by winning the Suburban Handicap comfortably from Poutalau and Kentucky. He went to the front a furlong from home and although Poutatau got to within a neck of him, bo had more than that in hand. Kentucky did not finish on as on the first day. Hearth lost her chance by a slow beginning. Rebel Mate wont well early, but was done with over a furlong from the post.

Wihl Fox gave an outstanding performance to win I lie Belmont Hack Handicap from Surveyor-General, who also made a creditable showing. Both were sent back early, and were in the rcar’division entering upon the course proper. Silver Fox, Equity, Withdrawal, and Blue Border were (ho leaders on to the course proper, but with a furlong to go these were passed by Sur-veyor-General and Wild Fox, and. responding well, Wild Fox stayed on too well for Sm-veror-Gcneral, who as easily heat Sunny Kiiifbt, with Phvto only half a head away. Then followed Blue Border, Withdrawal, Wildfire, and Valiant Lady.

'The biggest surprise of the day, and also of the meeting, was delayed until the concluding event, the Hull Handicap, which was won by While Rajah, a stable mate of Augment, 'file favourite, Don’t Forget, once more began smartly, and was soon out in front, of Last Aero, Sporting Gift, and Shikari, anil he led into the stratght from Sporting Gift, Shikari, and Kathbella, with Circular Note moving up on the inside. Don’t Forget was in trouble a furlong from home, and Circular Note then showed out from KalhboHa, with White Rajah making a late appearance on the outside, A stirring, struggle ensued, White Rajah getting tip in the last stride to beat Circular Note, with Kathbella a close third, clear of .Shikari, and then came Siglow, Don’t Forget, Amigo, and Last Acre.
