AUCKLAND ARCHITECT’S SUCCESS

WINS GOLD MEDAL COMPETITION WELLINGTON CENTENNIAL MEMORIAL DESIGN [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, February 22. The New Zealand Institute of Architects gold medal competition for 1940, which was judged by a jury appointed by the Royal Institute of British Architects, London, has been won by Air H. L. Massey, of Auckland, for his design of the Wellington Centennial Memorial, which marks the site of the first landing of the pioneers at Petone and takes the form of a hall and bathing sheds. Air Massey has been successful in numerous competitions, ono of his earliest achievements being the winning in 1920 of the first ‘ Daily Mail ’ competition in housing held in England 1 after the last war. Ho is a former president of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, and yesterday was elected Dominion president in succession to Air J. M. Dawson, of Wellington.
