MORE INTEREST NEEDED
Tlio necessity for building up a. reserve supply of clothing in the city in anticipation of any emergency which may arise is again emphasised by the mayoress of Wellington (Mrs T. C. A. Hislop). The recent appeal for materials or clothes met with little response, ami it is felt that a more serious view ot the situation should bo taken by the public in view of tbe steadily deteriorating position in the Pacific. A .supply of clothing is on hand, hot this is considered quite inadequate to meet an emergency, and the energetic voluntary sewing members of the committee who remake old clothes and fashion now ones from what materials they can obtain, are feeling the lack of sufficient work to keep them continually busy. This is a. way in which most citizens can contribute something to a patriotic cause which is very ne;»r to their hearts and homes. Clothes of almost any description are welcome, so long as they are clean. The oldest styles can he cut and remodelled by the Sewing Committee, who are geniuses at remaking or cutting down. Those who have already contributed clothing and whose wardrobes cannot, he squeezed any tighter, could make donations for the buying of materials. This is also a way in which firms could contribute, in fact, several firms already have been very generous in their assistance.
