JUNIOR AND WOMEN'S TITLES AUSTIN'S FINE RUN The Otago junior aml women’s amateur athletic championships wore commenced on the Caledonian Ground this afternoon. The track was in surpiisiuglv good condition, but a choppy south-east wind made a lag in times. The meeting commenced with G. L. Austin’s special attempt on the 15-milo standard time ot 87min. He covered tho first mile in smin Msec, the second in smin 41 see, the third and fourth in smin 34sec, and tho fifth in oinin 35sec, tho five being covered in 28rain. Ho was ahead of his schedule time by Imin at this distance. At tho tenth mile his time was 56min 14sec,_ which was IJmin ahead of schedule. Thc_tull distance was covered in Soinin 47 2-ssec, which was Imin 17 3-ssoc better than tho standard time set by the Now Zealand Council and Grain outside the world record.
