OR JOHN MALCOLM MITCHELL Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, December 26. The death has occurred of Dr John Malcolm Mitchell, M.C., M.A., LL.D. [Dr Mitchell was secretary of the Carnegie United Kingdom Trust from 1919 to 1939, and was until lately a lieu-tenant-colonel in the Regular Army Reserve of Officers. Born at Nottingham in. 1879, he was educated at Liverpool College and Queen’s College, Oxford, where he gained honours in classics, archaeology, and ancient history. From. 1909 to 1914 he-was lecturer in classics and ancient history in the University of London, taking a similar position iu 1919 in the East London and Birkbeck Colleges. He served on the western front from 1915 until the end of the war, rising to the rank of Deputydirector (lieutenant-colonel) of tha Army of the Rhine. He was several times mentioned in despatches and was awarded the 0.8. E. and the_M.C. Returning to civil life he again acted as examiner and lecturer in various universities besides faking an actiye interest in educational and public organisations. Dr Mitchell was the author of numerous publications.]
