BEAU VITE'S CUP FAILURE
DEFECTIVE FOOT PLATE RETURNING TO DOMINION MELBOURNE, November 6. An explanation of Beau Vile’s lailure in the Melbourne Cup yesterday was forthcoming to-day. Beau Vile displayed a little soreness and a slight limp after the race, and it was revealed he had buckled the plate of his off forefoot, the plate having spread beyond the wall of bis hoof. The trainer, M’Grath, expressed the opinion that lids probably caused pain and was a partial reason why Bean Vite ran about. He walked soundly after a farrier bad removed the defective plate. Beau Vite will be returned to New Zealand and spelled for three \veeks before being prepared for the Wellington Cup. Th i horse will not come to Melbourne for Ihe Autumn, but will be in Sydney at Easter. . M’Gratb considers that Bean Vite’s buckled off fore shoe brought about his Cup defeat.
