MARTHA MINE DISPUTE
WORK RESUMED [Per United Press Association.] WAIHI, November 4. Work in both the Martha Gold Mining v Company (Waibi) Ltd. mine at' Waihi and the battery at Waikino was back to normal this morning after a fortnight’s serious disruption caused by the much decreased output following the failure of negotiations between the company and the pieceworkers regarding increased charges by the company for gelignite and other stores supplied. The matter was investigated last Friday bv an Emergency Disputes Committee appointed under the Strike and Lock-out Emergency Regulations, 1939. Mr J. A. Gihnour, S.M., industrial magistrate, who presided, gave his decision on Saturday afternoon, and the finding was considered at a special meeting of the members of, the Ohinemuri Mines and Batteries’ Union yesterday morning. Normal resumption of work means full employment for about 600 men at both the mine and the battery, and an output of between 16,000 and 17,000 tons of ore per month.
