SITTING OF DUNEDIN BOARD The sitting of the Dunedin Appeal Board of the Man Power Committee (Messrs I). C. Cameron, chairman, W. R. Clarke, C. V. Smith, and W. J. M. Grant, secretary) was continued yesterday afternoon, when the balance of the 27 appeals set down for hearing were disposed of. Twenty-three of the full list were dismissed, and four adjourned. The board lias now heard ICB appeals of the 330 lodged in the Otago district, and 107 have been dismissed, 49 adjourned indefinitely, and a number withdrawn. Ten made on the grounds of conscientious objection will be heard in Wellington. Eollowing is a resume of yesterday afternoon’s proceedings:— The General Manager of Railways appealed on behalf of one fitter and one boilermaker at the Hillside Workshops. It was stated in support of the appeal that the former particularly was engaged upon war work, and could not be spared. There wore 87 boilermakers at the workshops, where overtime was nevertheless being worked. Already 103 of the employees there had been called up for overseas service and 55 for Territorial training; this out of a total of 1,500. —The appeal was dismissed. Cleary Bottle Stores Ltd. appealed on behalf of an employee who was a general hand and buyer. It would take 12 months to train a man capable of taking charge. Two tnen of a staff of four had already been called up.—Appeal dismissed. A number of other appeals by individuals lodged on the ground of undue hardship were also heard. Two of these were adjourned until January 31, and the rest dismissed.
