—Vice-Regal.— His Excellency the Governor-General (Viscount Galway), accompanied by Lord Dormer, A.D.C., attended the dawn parade at the Cenotaph and the morning service at St. Paul's Cathedral yesterday. In the afternoon he was present at the ' services 'at the Cenotaph and at the Town Hall, and later visited the Officers’ Club. Viscount Galway and his staff left by car' this morning en route to Wellington. Mr A. C. Leary left this morning for Wellington.' Mr E. B. Gordon, M.P, for Rangitikei, / is visiting Dunedin. Advice has been received by Mrs J. Moloney that her son, Dr G. E, Moloney, who is now in Loudon, has passed the examination for the degree of member of the Royal College of Physicians. Dr E. R. Harty, who for the past three years has acted as police surgeon, was met by the police officers at the central station on Wednesday and presented with a case of pipes. Superintendent P. J. O’Hara, in making the presentation, referred to the excellent relationship existing between the officers of the force and Dr Harty, and expressed the hope that the latter would return to resume his duties when he had discharged those connected with his appointment in the Royal Navy. Members of the staff of the National Mortgage and Agency. Company made a presentation of a cheque at a recent gathering to Mr S. 6. Styche, a member of the staff for 49 years, and to Mr W. J. Crawford, auctioneer for 32 years. The general manager, Mr G. M. Ritchie, presided, and referred to; the good qualities of both recipients and their happy associations with the company. Mr J. Bews, local manager, also expressed his appreciation of the work of Mr Styche and Mr Crawford, and of the high esteem in which they were held. . .

Miss Farquhar was reappointed by the Hospital Board oh Wednesday night to represent it on the St. John Ambulance'Association.

, Advice -was received this morning that Dr Graham Riley has been admitted as a member or the Royal College of 'Physicians. . The cable states that he has joined the New. Zealand Medical Corps in London, and will go to Egypt later. Dr Riley is'a graduate of Otago University, and has been for some time attached to the Royal Masonic Hospital, where he was studying for his M.R.C.P. A motion was carried by the Hospital Board at its meeting on Wednesday night, extending ; to the Hon. E’eter Fraser its congratulations and est wishes upon his, appointment to the office of Prime Minister.

At the meeting of the Harbour Board on Wednesday night, the chairman (Mr W. Begg) referred to the death of Mr A. S. Paterson, who had been a member of the board from 1900 to 1902, and whose services to the community generally, said Mr Begg, had been greater perhaps than was generally recognised, because of the unostentatious manner in which many of them had been rendered. Mr J. B. The term of _ appointment is three years from April 1. At the quarterly meeting of the Trinity Methodist Church Circuit held on Tuesday' a warm welcome was extended to the Rev. J. W. Bayliss, who has been transferred from’Russell circuit to the charge of the Glenavon and WoodhaUgh Methodist Churches, his induction taking place at Glenavon Church yesterday. ' . Mr W. D. Sutherland who has been a member of the Port Chalmers School Committee for the past 18 years, withdrew his nomination at the recent election, having decided not to contest a seat on the new committee- Mr Sutherland was elected a member in 1922, and has held office as secretary and treasurer, and has been chairman since 1935, alto as chairman of the Dental Clinic Committee since . 1938; _ . At a practice of the Centennial Choir on Wednesday evening, the conductor, Mr Alfred Walmsley, referred to the death of Mr A. S. Paterson, who had done so much for music in Dunedin, especially by his generoity in presenting the Town Hall organ’ to; the city. Mr G. S. Thomson spoke of Mr Paterson’s long connection with the Dunedin Choral Society as am active member, and mentioned that .his last appearance as a member of th© choir took place only eight or nine years ago. Brian, acting chief postmaster, who spoke of Mr Trewern s sterling worth and of the valuable assistance he had for many years rendered to junior officers during their training neriod. Mr Brian’s remarks were supported by Mr W. J- Whmrav, superintendent of mails, Mr G. W. Adamson accountant, and Mr W. Pinkham, supervisor of the public service parage. Messrs J. Knewstubb and R. Carey, R.N.V.R. men. were accorded a sendoff at Port Chalmers on Wednesday afternoon by the Combined Patriotic Committee. Good wishes were conveyed by the mayor (Mr T. Scollay) and mayoress, Mr D. Forsyth, and the Rev. J. G; Dunn. On Wednesday afternoon the manager and staff of the Dunedin branch of the Royal Exchange Assurance Cornomt-ion assembled to bid farewell to Mr Ewan Cameron, who for the pqst two years has held the position of chief clerk, and who has been chosen for service overseas with the Royal Naval Reserve.
