OTAKOU CELEBRATIONS

WARNING TO MOTORISTS LOWER ROAD IK POOR SHAPE Heavy traffic is expected on the Portobe'llo road to-morrow, consequent upon the celebrations at Otakou, when the memorial stones in connection with the Maori Centennial Church will be laid. Because of this the Automobile Association (Otago) requests all motorists to exercise every care on the road, and to adhere to the speed limit of 30 miles an hour. - Below Portobello reconstruction work is being carried out and the road is narrow, and in this portion drivers are asked to keep a special lookout. In addition to all the private cars expected on the road at least 12 buses will be running under the control of the Peninsula Motor Company, and motorists should bear in mind that in a collision between bus and car it is not the bus that usually comes off second best, A paddock has' been hired close to the church, and full parking facilities, under the control of the Transport Department and the Automobile Association, will be available. Motorists are particularly requested not to park their cars on either side of the road itself. Motorists who intend going further afield this week-end will find all roads in very good condition, with the exception of the Pigroot between Palmerston and Green Valley. This section of the road has not been in a good state for months, and is at present very bad, calling for careful driving.
