SAD HOMECOMING
DEATH OF ACHILLES HERO'S DAUGHTER [Pee United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, February 13. A sad homecoming awaits Chief Yeoman of Signals, L. C. Martinson, one of the' heroes of the Achilles. His 13-year-old daughter, Barbara Joan. Martinson, of Tnkapuna Grammar School, died after a short illness. The burial service was conducted by the naval chaplain, Rev. G. T. Robson, and the coffin was carried to' the graveside by two uncles who are members of the second echelon, two naval colleagues of her father, and two civilians. Barbara was a bright pupil who excelled in English and literature. The- father was privileged to spend only a week-end with the family before the Achilles sailed on h(jr fateful voyage to the South American station, they having Just arrived from England to rejoin him.
Martinson was reported seriously wounded in the naval action, hut Mrs Martinson has since been advised that tho wound is not as serious ns at first believed and her husband is making satisfactory progress in hospital at the [Falkland Islands. -'«**•
