NINETIETH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS PUBLIC RECEPTION IN SYDNEY Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, February 13. The Catholic community gathered in force at a public reception to-night in the city Town Hall in honour of the ninetieth birthday of Archbishop Kelly, whose condition of health permitted only a brief attendance, accompanied by his own doctor. He was presented with a birthday cheque of £I,OOO and an address from the Catholics of Sydney archdiocese. All the members of the Consular Corps, representatives of the Government, and the Lord Mayor and aidermen were present. Archbishop Kelly is the oldest prolate in the Christian world in control of a diocese. He succeeded Cardinal Moran in 1911. The diocese has spent over £12,000,000 in the erection of Catholic church properties.
