MOTORISTS' INTERESTS
MEETING OF AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION The executivi of the Automobile Association (Otago) held its first meeting of the year last night. Present were the president (Mr P. W. Breen), Messrs G. T. Thorn, A. E. Ansell, H. L. Sprosen, E. W. G. H. Watts, C. W. Sunostrura, J. Y. Love, A. E. Bingham, H. L. Gibson, W. J. MTnnes, L. H. Mirams, A. J. Cameron, T. V, Turner, J.* L. Passmore, and G. T. Anderson. , SATISFACTORY FINANCES. • The Finance Committee recommended that £2,163 4s lid be passed for payment, this amount including £1,200 paid into-the bank accounts and representing also two months’ accounts. • As a contribution to the cost of the Haast Pass Memorial, it had been decided by the committee to ■ donate £5 5s towards the cost of the memorial. . The Chairman remarked that the financial position was verj’ satisfactory, and showed that in wartime members were realising their financial responsibilities to the association. The report, which was presented by Mr Passmore, was adopted POSTING OF SIGNS. ' The Sign-posting Committee’s report traversed details involving the erection of various signposts throughout the province. The South Island Motor Union, the committee reported, had forwarded a list of signs with diagrams showing signs which, it was hoped, would eventually become standard throughout the Dominion. This had been approved in principle, but it was held by the committee That the change would have to be gradual. Until the schedule had been fully approved, the committee did not recommend the schedule being supported. The report, presented by Mr MTnnes, was adopted. HILL CLIMB POSTPONED. Because of the petrol restrictions, the chairman of the Sports Committee (Mr T. Y. Turner) reported that there would be very few entries this year for the car hill climb, which in previous years had been held on Bishop’s road. Because of these restrictions it would have to be considered whether the event should be held. “ This seems to be the.right thing to do,” said a member, commenting on the advisability of postponing the climb. The report w f as adopted. SATISFACTORY MEMBERSHIP. “ We are still getting new members. showing that the A.A. membership is w'orth while,” commented the Chairman, when it was reported that the total membership of the association. including 206 new members and §3 resignations, totalled 0,160, The report was. adopted.
