SCHOOLS DAY.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I would like to protest strongly against this so-called schools day at Wingatui next Tuesday. What nave the 4 infants of Otago schools done to deserve this high-handed action put over by an adult democratic people? Would our and our children’s forefathers bo pleased to see how easily their mam descendants aro forgotten on such an outstanding occasion? “ Suffer little children,” so dearly taught to us all as children, seems to bo utterly forgotten. Perhaps they may be considered as above adults and cater for themselves. The action of Dunedin’s liberal donors are highly appreciated, but are they all iu agreement with how their thanksgivings aro to bo dispensed? Surely somebody or some band of citizens will cater for the younger ones of Dunedin in some form. As one suggestion has been already made,- why not a day at Logan Park? As our trains are busy, why not make our trams the same? The appreciation, memory, and thanks of the younger children for such an event will be just as grateful as those of more mature age who are denying them their due rights. It appears that the more one is helpless the easier it is to cast them aside and forget. Are the younger ones too much trouble ? Did our forefathers think the same of those who are adults to-day? I think not. I believe there is to be a surprise of a delightful nature at Wingatui on Tuesday, but the participants must wait till Tuesday—different for younger ones; they get their surprise, too, a week’s notice, and a disappointing one.—l am, etc..
