MOSGIEL BOROUGH COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING The mayor (Mr W. P. HartstongeV presided at the monthly meeting of tno Mosgiel Borough Council, held last evening. CORRESPONDENCE. The Dunedin City Electrical Engineer’s Office gave authority to paint pedestrian crossing signs on electrio fight poles where required. The Secretary of the Municipal Association notified that the Municipal Conference would be held at Wellington from March 5 to 9. The Vincent County Council asked for support to a proposal to erect an Otago- W estland national highway Haast Pass memorial.—Received. The Sanitary Inspector reported on a> visit to a ratepayer in Church street. Though the number of fowls was only six. they were being kept under conditions which would be likely to cause a nuisance. He had given notice as'to what was required under the by-law.— Received ; application to be made to the council for permission to erect tho proper style of fowlhouse. An application from resident's in Wingatui road for a reduction in the scale of extraordinary water charges was declined. MEN FOR ACTIVE SERVICE. It was decided that men from Mow giel proceeding on active service be tendered an afternoon tea before leaving the district. GENERAL. The application of the Loyal Mosgiel Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., for the use of the Coronation Hall for jubilee functions on April 5 and 6, and that of this Taieri Horticultural Society for tho autumn show on March t and 2, were granted. The clerk was instructed to take steps to collect all outstanding rates in view of the approaching close of the financial year. The Chairman of the Works Commit-i tee reported that the utilisation of l Scheme 13 labour for a further, month on loan works had been authorised by the Labour Department. The chairman of the Reserves Committee was authorised to have the gateway from the tennis courts into the recreation ground permanently closed to prevent persons gaining admission to the recreation ground when _ a fee was being charged at the main entrance.
