CANADIAN CRUDE OIL
TURNER VALLEY OUTPUT / ADVANCE IN THBCE YEARS Crude, oil production in Canada durina the first nine months of 193 J amounted to 6,787,117 barrels, com- ‘ uared with 5,341,569 barrels m the corresponding period of 1938. More ; than 95 iper cent, of this output came ' from, the Turner Valley field m Alberta. Canada came into prominence as a crude oil producer only within the past three years. The long-cherished hope that Turner Valley would become an important producer ot petroleum was realised in June, 1936, when a large flow of high-quality crude was struck in Turner Valley Royalties well. Other ' wells were drilled in rapid succession, and by the close of 1938 about 68 wells were producing crude oil, and 17 others were being drilled for oil. Intensive development and exploration of the Turner Valley region was . continued throughout 1939, with the ' result that 87 wells were in production ’ during October, and drilling for oil was under way at 20 wells. Operations have been pro-rated in order that the output would not exceedl the demand,; and recently the allowable production of Turner Valley was reduced from 26,- ■ 000 barrels to 20,000 barrels daily.
