OBITUARY
MRS SARAH MORGAN One of the first children born to emigrants who arrived, in the ship John Wicklifl'e, w r as Mrs Sarah A. E. Morgan, whose death occurred at Taihape on January 20. She was bom at West Taieri in 1858. Her mother, Mrs Ann Watts (nee Blatcn), was one of the pioneers who helped to found Dunedin and Otago province. Mrs Morgan was one of the old school, a hardy pioneer, and went through many interesting experiences. Though she worked long hours in the fields and toiled in the bush cutting wood, she was at all times ready to go to a sick person at any hour, and often tramped many miles in snow or rain on such missions. Mrs Morgan, who was an ardent church worker, was also a keen horticulturist and a successful exhibitor. She reared a family of 15—nine daughters and six sons, three of whom died some years ago. The 12 remaining members of the family were with her before she died, some coming long distances from both islands. The wreaths at the funeral included one from Rebecca Lodge, Taihape, of which she was a member. The ceremony at the church and at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. Mr Clements. Mrs Morgan, whoso husband died 22 years ago at Mosgiel, is survived by 76 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchil-dren.
