BOYS’ BRIGADE NOTES

6t/

“The Object of the Brigade shall be the advancement of Christ’s Kingdom among Boys end the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-respect, and all that tends towards a true Christian Manliness.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK. “ Faith looses the rudder bands and hoists up the mainsail to the wind of providence.” It would be a very skilled yachtsman who could steer his craft in the high wind blowing these days. The sea is whipped to fury and even in a sheltered harbour small boats may be swamped. So it is with ouf lives, no matter _ how sheltered we arc in our home life, soon enough we encounter squalls and storms, and it is only when we are guided by God that we are safely brought to port. WHAT A BRIGADE BOY SHOULD KNOW. (Continued.) 7. The 8.8. has two chief parades or meetings. These are Bible class yor Sunday school) and drill. At Bible class we learn about Jesus Christ and how to follow Him and help all those who need our help. We learn to become good, upright, downright Chrwtian boys and men. We use drill, not to teach you to become a soldier (wo have no connection in any way with the army), but so that you should learn to be smart and neat, quick to listen, quick to think, and quick to obey. Wo do many other things (though not all at once), such as camping, swimming, football, cricket, ambulance, gymnastics, physical training, fire drill, life saving, and other things which you will hear about when the session commences. 8. You are expected to pay a weekly subscription and to buy your uniform, except the belt, which may not be sold. You must try never to get behind with your instalments. That is part of your training. !). As well as paying in regularly, you must attend regularly and punctually. Except for illness, try never once to be absent or late. At the end of the first session you will be given a little badge—the one year’s service badge—if you have not been absent more than twice, and these only with a good reason. 10. No boy may join till he is 12 years of age. This is a very strict rule, and no officer will let you join under 12, if he knows it. If you are under 12, be a man and tell your officer. You must wait till your birthday, and when you join you will enjoy the 8.8, much better. 11th DUNEDIN. 'A meeting of the officers and n.c.o.s of the 11th Dunedin Company (South Dunedin) was held in Reid Hall to discuss and arrange work for the coming session. It was decided to open the session with a games evening on March 4, the first parade to be held on March 11. Mr R. Hislop (captain), Mr A. Downie; and Mr Roseveare spoke on the duties of an n.c.o. Privates E. Johnson,_ S. Fraser, and S. Fleming gave their impressions of the Dominion camps. Arrangements were made to start bugle band practice and also to hold an n.c.o.s’ class. Prior to the opening of the session a letter was read from S. (Brightiug, who is at present living in Nelson.
