OTAGO DANCING CHAMPIONSHIP ! That a dancing contest properly organised is a distinct attraction is evidenced by the great interest aroused by this year’s final of the Otago dancing championship to bo held at the Town Hall to-night. Seven couples will, compete for the honour of winning the ballroom dancing championship for 19:19. The winning couple will be presented with a silver cup each. The judging is in the hands of Mr J. H. Green, late of Wellington. Mr Green has been demonstrating in Wellington for the last three years, holds sis certificates of merit for dancing, and has judged dancing competitions at nearly every big dance hall throughout New Zealand. The finalists this, year are: Mr an Mrs Bert Duff, the winners in 1931, 1932, 1937 of the Otago chain-: plonship, third in the 1937 New Zealand championship. winners of the 1957 trip to Melbourne; Miss Cora Duff arid Mr Leo Schmeltz, the winners of the 1938 trip to Melbourne, and fifth in the Australasian championship held at Melbourne last year; Miss June Lawrence and Mr Pat. M'Namara, the winners of the 1939 Otago junior championship; Miss Nettie de Beer and Mr Albert M'Cracken. the winners of the novice championship of Otago and Southland; Miss Kitty Eckhoff and Mr Cliff Garland, the winners at Dunedin Competitions in 1937 and 1938; Miss Phillis White and Mr Dave Hewitt, third in the 1939 Otago junior championship; Miss G. Wood and Mr S. Shrimptori, 1938 finalists. The cups will be presented to the winning couple by Dr M'Millan. Next Saturday night the South Island cluimnionshin will be held, and Southland. Canterbury, and Otago will be represented. The winner of to-night’s contest will renresont Otago. The music will be supplied by Dick Colvin’s band and five vocalists. Spectators will be admitted to the circle for a small charge, and may reserve their seats at Begg’s. Further particulars ar§ advertised.
