HOTEL BEDROOM DRAMA LAURIE CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER (Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, November 13. Francis Leonard Laurie (39) a store man, appeared in the Police .Court befor; Mr Morling. S.M., charged that on November 5 he attempted to murder Josephine Norton Laycock. Asking for a remand till November 27, Detective-sergeant Trethewey said he was instructed to oppose bail, should such be requested, and to point out that the accused was not bailable as of right. The circumstances leading to the arrest,” said the Sergeant, “ are that the accused and the woman named in the charge booked at an hotel in the city on November 5 under the names of Mr and Mrs Laurie, Next morning the accused and the woman were found in their bedroom in semi-conscious condition, both bleeding freely from incised wounds on the left wrists. The woman was also suffering from poisoning, and a bottle that had contained poison was found in the room and had been traced to Laurie’s possession.” Sergeant Trethewey added that Laurie was arrested yesterday on his discharge from hospital. The woman, whose condition was more serious than Ihat of the accused, was still in hospital, and her condition was not altogether favourable. Mr F. M'Carthy, who appeared for the accused, did not onpose the remand, which was granted.
