ST. JAMES
Music and comedy are the two basic ingredients of ‘ The Garden of the Moon.’ which is at the St. -lames, with Pat O’Brien, Margaret Lindsay, and John Payne in the featured roles. ‘ Garden of the Moon ’ introduces John Payne to the motion picture public in tho first important role with which he has been entrusted since he came to Hollywood a couple of years ago. Besides the first three featured players, the new musical picture has a cast that includes some of the cleverest entertainers who have ever appeared on tho screen. Four of them are famous swing-stylo musicians who happen also to be first-rate comedians all. They are Johnnie Davis, Joe Vcnuti. Jerry Colonna, and Ray Mayer. Another interesting feature of the production is tho appearance of the famous Jimmie Fidler, of the American radio, who plays himself in tho story. The private life of a private nurse is revealed in Monogram’s exciting 1 Numbered Woman,’ which supports, with Sally Blane in the starring role. A story of medical science entering the war against crime, ‘ Numbered Woman ’ concerns Linda Morgan, who takes an outside job as attending nurse to Adams, a racketeer, so that she can clear her, brother of false charges which ■sent him to prison for a crime Adams and his partner Blake had committed. Linda, playing detective, is successful in her job, because Adams falls in love with her, but with the end in sijrht ho discovers her identity, and a thrilling climax ensues as the racketeer informs Linda that, although ho loves her ho must kill her.
