OBITUARY

MR A. H. VALENTINE

Well known in lodge and husmea* circles in Dunedin, Mr Arthur Herbert Yaletine passed away at Auckland on Tuesday. He was manager of Messr* H. Isaacs, Ltd., indent merchant* at the time of his death. Born. m Adelaide, Mr. Valentine came to New; Zealand at an early age, joined the firm of Messrs Hi Isaacs Ltd. as a boy and rose steadily until he was appointed manager in 1919. He possessed an excellent reputation in business circle* m the city and was highly respected by all who knew him. Outside hi* work Mr Valentine’s chief interest my in Oddfellowship and Freemasonry. joined the Leith Lodge, No. 4,1.0-O-*’-, m 1900, and was elected to the Grand Lodge seven years later. In 1913 ue was elected to the position of Grand Master of the Order in New Zealand. He was also a past representative of the Grand Lodge of Australasia. Mr Valentine had a remarkable collection of hooks on Oddfellowship and Freemasonry, including some rare, works! in fact, it was regarded as T the besfi collection in Australia and New land. Mr Valentine was also interested in Freemasonry and held advanced degrees in the Lodge Celtic. Mr Valentine was a member of the George Street School Committee for a number of years and took a keen interest in educational affairs. was also a keen follower of Rugby football, while he was held m high esteem by members of the Commercial Travellers’ Association, of which he . was a member. Mr Valentine is survived by his wife and a daughter (Miss Marjory Valentine). Mr Thomas Valentino (Dunedin) is a brother.
