SWORD OF HONOUR FOR BALCLUTHA JAPANESE. Official commendation from the Japanese Government for the work he has done iu cementing friendship between New Zealand and Japan has been received by Captain K. K. Tsukigawa, of Balclntha. In appreciation of this work Prince Chichibu', brother of the Emperor, has honoured Captain Tsukigawa by sending him a naval sword. This morning Captain Tsukigawa arrived at Lyttelton to await the arrival of the Japanese motor ship Naniwa Marti, which is bringing the gift. Born at Nagasaki. Japan, Captain Tsukigawa spent his apprenticeship ns a naval cadet. Later he served in sailing ships and steamers trading to all parts of the world. In 1889, not liking conditions aboard the sailing vessel on which he was

employed, he deserted while in .Dunedin. After farming, he joined the Balclntha River Board as seaman in 1904. After serving 15 years aboard the steamer Clutha, he was appointed master of the vessel, a position which he still holds. Captain Tsukigawa has been a British subject for the past 35 years.
