The temperance orator was trying to explain to his audience how his life had been influenced by total abstinence. “ I am now,” ho said, proudly, “ the head of my department. Five years ago there were two men in superior position to me. One was discharged through drunkenness. The other was led into evil ways and is now serving a long term of imprisonment; that was through the influence of strong licpior. Now what, I ask you,” he added, impressively. “ what has raised me to my present high position?” A voice from the back of the hall came at once: “ Drink!”
